This year, thanks to our customers, we were able to purchase toys for the Cleft Palate Ward 9 at Birmingham Childrens Hospital. Earlier in the year Dave's (Shepwell Manager) grandson, Owen, had an operation to correct his cleft palate. After hearing about how the children on the ward had to be fed and cared for, before and after the operation, we decided to see if there was anything we could do to make their stay in hospital less traumatic. Dave contacted the cleft palate nurse, Annie Cole, on our behalf. She told him they were short on toys, highchairs and top and tail bowls. Dave asked her to let us have a list of items needed and in due course we received a wish list. I am pleased to say we were able to provide all the items on the list and added a few extras. We spent a total of £1000. These items were presented to the ward on Tuesday 4th December. A list of the items and photos of the presentation will be available to view at our Country and Western night on Friday 14th December.
